Does anyone find campus tours amusing now? All I can think when I see them is, "Damn, that was me a year ago..." and have this strange desire to stop the group and tell them that Tufts is a cool place. And they should come.

Maybe its just me?

Amusing? Oh dear, I have no idea where to begin...

I live in the low 100's of South - South 105, to be precise. I mention this because this is the side of South's "U" that is along lower campus road, where the tours walk down by. Because of this, campus tours find it very convenient to enter South in the main door, pass through our hallway, and emerge out the back door right back on the road. Sometimes, campus tour guides will ask residents with open doors to let the groups have a peek inside, which I don't really mind, but I imagine for some people it must make them feel like they're in a zoo on the side of the fence the humans aren't.

Anyway, there was one time I just got out of the shower, clothed in all the ancient greek luxury of a towel and singing an old Queen hit when I opened the door and SAW THE BIGGEST CAMPUS TOUR EVER. There were like, 60 people in one tour! Turns out some people decided to bring their grandparents and grandkids and other excuses for kin along. Sure, it wasn't the naked quad run or anything, but I couldn't help feeling a bit exposed.

Ah well, I will agree that they're pretty funny. And just to break the awkwardness of that last encounter, I managed to stammer "Tufts is awesome!" before retreating back into the bathroom and waiting for the wide-eyed prospectives and their grandparents to evaporate.

haha I love the pre-frosh tours. I love trying to pick out who will actually apply and who is hating every minute of the tour. I can't believe that was me in those silly tours just a year ago. I definitely do want to run up to them and be like COME TO TUFTS!!! So it's not just you :]

The next time I hear a tour guide say, "As legend has it, Jumbo sacrificed himself to push Tom Thumb out of the way of the train," I'm going to shout that it's a damn lie, and that Jumbo sufferred a slow, painful death an ocean away from his real home.

Then I want to tell them how much fun hill rolling is.

but only if no dogs have been by the hill recently

haha. i so remember doing that 2 years ago. i agree with wanting to tell them to come to tufts, which is why when i walk by the groups and there seems to be a lull in tour guide rambling, or when there is a group lagging in the back, i say (just loudly enough for it to be directed at them but still not yelling) "TUFTS ROCKS!" ...then keep walking.

I live in South and it seems like they're ALWAYS swarms of them around. It pretty much made my life when I saw two guys streak a group, parents and siblings and all, running out the side door and then back in the front. Seriously...So college. Now, just seeing someone walking backwards across campus sends me into a fit of giggles.
